Dame Judi Dench has donated the set of the film “Shakespeare In Love” to be turned into a replica Rose Theatre in the north of England for the British Shakespeare Company. Dame Judi was given the set as a gift after she won an Oscar for her role as Queen Elizabeth I in the film. This is a fitting tribute to the golden age of British theater, which groomed actors whose careers continue to flourish well past their 60th birthdays. Ian McKellen and Dame Judi’s 1979 performance in Roman Polanski’s ”Macbeth” is now available on iTunes, as is Kenneth Branagh’s production of the lighthearted “Twelfth Night.”
