Its unlawful sexual intercourse due to her age. The girl wasn't too terribly young either. She was 13. Taking all things into consideration it is more of a scandal then a tragedy. Lately the protection of children has grown to become a witch hunt. Sure, all people, of all ages should be protected. But if you can try a thirteen year old as an adult, then there is no reason to assume they can't be considered an adult in other activity. Its not a charge of rape. Some demand justice irrespective of the time gone by, others want the case to be dropped. the setup:
I think the only reasonable solution is and since Polanski has a daughter…

To place a convicted child rapist with his daughter and ask Polanski this: If this man rapes your daughter, what do you want done to him?

One catch… Whatever fate you choose for him, the same will be done to you.

And if that wouldn’t make for the most dramatic viewing ever, i dont know what would.

Because I can’t think of a more intense and yet simultaneously fair solution to this case.

And that folks is why I’m starting to write scripts.
